Drones Strike Kuwait Border Crossing, Damaging Facilities
KUWAIT CITY_Hostile drones struck Kuwait’s side of the border with Iraq on Thursday, causing material damage at the Al-Abdali border crossing but no casualties, Kuwait’s Defense Ministry said, marking another security incident amid heightened regional tensions linked to the conflict involving Iran.
Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan said in a statement that the Al-Abdali border crossing came under attack during the afternoon. He said the strike caused property damage but that no injuries or fatalities were reported.
An Iraqi security source confirmed that an incident had occurred near the border before Kuwait officially announced the attack, providing independent confirmation that the area had been targeted.
A Kuwaiti official told AFP that Iran was responsible for the drone attack. The report did not include any immediate public response from Iranian authorities regarding the allegation.
The Al-Abdali crossing is one of Kuwait’s key land gateways with Iraq and is located in the country’s northern border region. The ministry’s statement did not specify the number of drones involved, the extent of the damage, or whether the crossing’s operations had been affected.
The reported strike comes during a period of heightened instability across the Gulf, with regional tensions escalating following military exchanges involving Iran and the United States.
